Makendoo were brilliant, nothing was a problem and they coped with the numbers beautifully.
We would certainly use them again, very professional and had a lovely approach with the kids and parents.
The masks/hats etc were fabulous and the kids had a ball creating them.’
Craig, Bromley Town Centre Manager

Useful Information

Makendoo workshops are ideal for shopping centres, festivals, fun days and community projects. We have evolved to thrive at busy events and our workshops are suitable for children of all ages. Our classic makes, generally masks, hats and small banners, painted and decorated with glitter and ribbons, are quick and simple, ensuring that everyone leaves the workshop with artworks to be proud of, lasting souvenirs of a great day out.

Times and numbers - Our standard day consists of 2 x 2 hour workshops with a break in between, during this time we can get through up to 260 participants. Working a drop-in system kids can join in at any stage during the workshop and can spend as long as they like creating their artwork, usually 15-30 minutes for standard makes. Children remain the responsibility of their accompanying adult. We can run longer sessions and accommodate higher numbers by arrangement. We can also run closed workshops for smaller numbers of kids to create more complex artworks or group projects.

Makes and materials - At our drop in workshops we like to keep things simple in order that everyone can achieve amazing results. Whatever the theme kids get to choose from a variety of makes, for example; a Pirates and Mermaids workshop will include pirate hats, mermaid tiaras, pirate and mermaid masks, parrots, dolphins, seahorses and fish on fishing rods. We use recycled card, paint (child friendly and washable) and biodegradable glitter. We have plenty of paint free options such as puppet making or card making and we are constantly coming up with new designs for specific events so talk to us if you have anything specific in mind.

Bookings - Once the cost and details have been agreed we will send you a confirmation e-mail, risk assessment and PLI documentation.

About Us

Gabrielle and Katy met at Camberwell School of Art and later collaborated on several children’s arts films for the BBC. In 1992 they set up Makendoo, running creative workshops for children of all ages at festivals, corporate events and in Shopping Centres. The business quickly grew and within a couple of years they were running workshops all over the UK and beyond. Regular bookings include Glastonbury Festival, Cambridge Folk Festival and Cushendun Big Arts Weekend. They have also travelled as far afield as Singapore, Arab Emirates and Australia.
Gabrielle and Katy have always been passionate about getting kids to discover, enjoy and develop their own creative skills and over the years they have built up a team of artists and workshop leaders who feel the same way. Parades, festivals, fun days and celebratory events are all brought to life with the addition of colourful workshops and children are always thrilled and proud to take home artworks they have created themselves. A vibrant and lasting reminder of a great day out.
